Higher Learning

Some spend a fortune seeking higher education
Others travel abroad, pursuing into other nations
Some for a better life, chasing the American dream
Finding the taste of success is not as sweet as it would seem
Which leads me to a question brought to me one day
Why do you go to church and live that way?
Church is like trade school and I'm learning from a carpenter
Falling in love with wisdom and giving my heart to her
All protection and provision are found in this knowledge
Going to church is like going to college
Learning who you are and who you are meant to be
And a whole hidden world you are trained to see
Classes on patience, perseverance, and peace
How to speak to a storm and make it cease
Love and forgiveness, unshakeable joy
And hope not even death can destroy
There is economics, history, and language arts
Hematology and cardiology are also a part
Perseverance and Endurance is church PE
You must dress for it but the clothes are free
The teacher is the Spirit. A real person by the way
He is attentive to your request night and day
Church is not a tradition and a passing phase
And it's not just a thing you do on Sundays
But a life long commitment to learn and grow
In the knowledge of a God who loved us so
To hear “well done” and see His face
And rest at last in our rightful place
